A concept from a descendant of the inventor of everyone's favorite midday meal, Earl Of Sandwich will shutter its downtown San Diego branch this summer.
In 1762, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, invented the meal that would forever change dining. Fast forward to 2004 when his direct descendants opened the first Earl of Sandwich eatery in Downtown Disney in Orlando, FL. Founded by Orlando Montagu, who is the younger son of The 11th Earl of Sandwich, the fast-casual chain now has more than 50 locations around the United States and one at Disneyland in France.
After opening its first San Diego County branch within Harrah's Southern California in Valley Center, Earl of Sandwich opened a location in downtown San Diego in June 2019. A third area outpost opened in Santee in early 2023. The eatery offers a menu of made-to-order hot sandwiches, hand-crafted wraps, freshly tossed salads, side dishes, and pizza breads, as well as breakfast sandwiches and other morning-focused items.
