North Park's popular El Comal restaurant has brought its Mexican fare to San Diego's East Village. El Comal Mexican Restaurant was founded in San Diego's North Park community in 2001 by husband-and-wife Noel & Luz Herrera with the help of their four children. Their first restaurant was located in Barrio Logan. Prior to opening their restaurants, Noel was a chef in the hotel industry in Acapulco and Luz was a chemistry teacher at the time.
The El Comal team has now taken over food operations at East Village's Quartyard outdoor shipping container park. They are serving a smaller version of the North Park restaurant menu, which includes tacos, flautas, nachos, smothered fries, chicharrones, and an Oaxacan tamal. El Comal is currently open for Quartyard events but will open on a full time basis starting at the beginning of August.
El Comal at Quartyard is located at 1301 Market Street in San Diego's East Village. For more information, visit elcomalsd.com and quartyardsd.com and check out the menu below.
