New Organic Restaurant & Craft Brewery Set To Open This Summer As Part Of Ambitious North County San Diego "Agrihood" Farm Community

July 17, 2024

A brand new farm-to-table restaurant and craft brewery are set to open this summer as part of Fox Point Farms, an innovative organic farm community that recently unveiled in San Diego's North County.

Situated just a few miles inland from Leucadia, Fox Point Farms is a residential community from century old American homebuilding company Shea Homes and developer Nolan Communities with a 5.5 acre farm. The 21.5 acres "agrihood" located off Quail Gardens Drive, just west of the Encinitas Ranch Golf Course in the Encinitas area of San Diego's North County, is the first of its kind in San Diego, although similar projects are in the works for Poway and Oceanside. Many of the 250 townhomes, cottages, and apartments in the surrounding area are already occupied, including by founder Brian Grover and his family.

Greg Reese, a farmer previously associated with the iconic The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, now grows produce for the farm and its on-site dining options. These include Harvest, a daytime cafe on the ground floor of the main development building. Harvest will also serve as a marketplace and farm stand, offering fresh produce and herbal personal care products grown on the farm. Fox Point Farms aims to serve not only its residents through a CSA program but also local restaurants with its fresh produce.
The highlight of the farm's culinary offerings will be Haven Farm + Table, a 120-seat restaurant located in the upstairs of the main building, providing a stunning view of the onsite vegetable fields and farm grounds. Set to open on August 10, and designed by local firm Tecture, this modern greenhouse-inspired venue will feature seasonal dishes complimented by a full bar. Culinary director Alex Carballo, known for his work at Valentina, Moto Deli, and Hamburger Hut, all in nearby Leucadia, brings his expertise from his time as executive chef at Stone Brewing Company, where he managed Stone Farms in Escondido.
Haven's kitchen will be led by Carballo and chef de cuisine Kelston Moore, co-founder of the Bad Boyz of Culinary. Moore, a former contestant on the Food Network's Chopped and a longtime private chef, recently returned to San Diego from St. Regis Deer Valley in Park City, UT. His global culinary perspective, influenced by his Navy travels and Barbados roots, will shine in produce-forward dishes like confit tomatoes with housemade burrata, carrots al pastor with grilled apricots and smoked corn foam, and summer squash agnolotti in garlic-sage butter. Moore plans to collaborate closely with the farm, adjusting the menu based on daily harvests and hosting guest chef dinners in the fields.
Additionally, Fox Point Farms Brewing Co. is a 10-barrel brewhouse that will produce organic beers featuring farm-grown hops and other ingredients, under the guidance of brewmaster Brian Carl, who was previously a brewer at San Diego's since-closed Benchmark Brewing Company. Carl also plans to establish an onsite coffee outlet dubbed Fox Point Roasters using beans grown on-site.
Within Fox Point Farms residential community, there is also an edible landscape walking trail with citrus and nut trees, an outdoor farm animal area, community gardens, picturesque seating areas, and an approximately 6,000-square-foot recreation center with a fitness center, pool, barbecue grills, fire pits, a bocce court, golf simulator and movie room, and more. There is also an outdoor community library, dog park, event space, and other social areas.

Fox Point Farms is located at 1200 Fox Point Farms Lane in San Diego's North County city of Encinitas. For more information, visit foxpointfarms.com.
