A comfort food chain with more than 100 locations around the country, Black Bear Diner will bring its second area outpost in San Diego's North County.
Based out of Redding, CA, Black Bear Diner was founded by Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Mannley in 1995. The chain of "old fashioned" American country diners currently has more than 150 locations in thirteen states. In 2019, Black Bear Diner opened its first San Diego restaurant in the 7,000 square-foot building that was previously a Coco's at 1025 Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon.
A new location of Black Bear Diner will open in the 6,200 square-foot standalone building that last housed Coco's Bakery in San Diego's North County city of Vista. Like other branches of the chain, the restaurant will offer a rustic motif with bear decor dotted all over the restaurant, including the signature 12-foot-tall black bear carving by artist Ray Schulz that greets customer of every location.
Black Bear Diner's menu will mimic the style of old newspapers, even titled The Black Bear Gazette with articles on the front page, and will offer a huge array of dishes including breakfast, burgers, salads, sandwiches, entrees, desserts and shakes. The Vista location will also offer a selection of beer and wine.
