Marketed as San Diego's first non-alcoholic bar, Good News is anticipated to open later this year in Hillcrest.
Good News is the brainchild of Kaylee and Crystal Clark, two former bartenders who have embraced the non-alcohol lifestyle and are now committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for others to do the same. The journey of Kaylee and Crystal began while recovering from their third bout of COVID-19 and tired of the drinking culture pervasive in their profession, decided to hold each other accountable as they navigated their new alcohol-free lives.
Now, they're channeling their experiences into Good News, a community space designed for those in recovery, the sober-curious, or anyone seeking a healthier relationship with alcohol. The bar will feature a variety of activities, including live music, trivia nights, and dance events with rotating DJs. While the final menu is still in the works, patrons can expect creative concoctions made from beloved local brands like Curious Elixirs, Best Day Brewing Co., and Three Spirit.

"Given San Diego's reputation for promoting healthy lifestyles and personal growth, we knew that a lot of people were looking for alternative social activities that wouldn’t negatively impact their physical or mental health,” say Kaylee and Crystal. However, they acknowledge that opening Good News hasn't been without its challenges. There's been some resistance from those who don't quite understand the appeal of non-alcoholic spaces. "Deviating from the norm can cause some pushback," they note.
The concept of a non-alcoholic bar might raise some eyebrows - after all, many restaurants and bars already offer "mocktails." But the difference lies in the dedication to creating a space where non-alcoholic options aren't just an afterthought but the main event. The Clarks' vision is to normalize NA beverages, making them as readily available and enjoyable as alcoholic drinks in any social setting.
Good News aims to open by late 2024/early 2025 at 3821 Park Blvd. in San Diego's Hillcrest community. For more information, visit goodnewssd.com.
