All-You-Can-Eat Japanese Restaurant Shabu-Works To Bring New Location To San Diego's North County.

August 19, 2024

Shabu-Works, an all-you-can-eat Japanese-style hot pot restaurant, is set to open a new location in San Diego's North County.

San Diego locals and longtime restaurateurs, Peter Yang and Mike Wu, are full brothers who grew up in the restaurant industry, working their way up from dishwashers and busboys to servers, line cooks, and beyond. With deep roots in the hot pot business, they launched Mongolian Hot Pot in 2007 and introduced the first Shabu-Works location in 2017, off Highway 15 in the Scripps Ranch area of Mira Mesa. In 2018, Peter was honored as a featured honoree on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list, recognized as one of the youngest and most prolific restaurateurs in the United States. Mike followed with accolades in 2020, when he was named one of the nation's top 25 executives by Fast Casual Magazine.

The new Shabu-Works location will be housed in the former Panera Bread building within Creekside Marketplace, off Grand Avenue in San Marcos. This 4,350 square-foot restaurant will continue Shabu-Works' tradition of offering a premium "All You Can Eat" Japanese-style Shabu-Shabu hot pot menu, featuring an expanded selection of high-quality meats, including grass-fed Australian lamb and USDA Choice Wagyu beef, along with an extensive hot and cold buffet bar.
At Shabu-Works, guests start by selecting a broth for their hot pot, with options ranging from Tonkotsu Pork Bone, Garlic Miso Tonkotsu, Spicy Miso, and Spicy Curry, to Sukiyaki, Sichuan Ma-La, The Mongolian, Spicy Tokyo, and three vegetarian and vegan-friendly choices. Diners then choose from a variety of premium meats, including Angus Beef Belly, CAB Top Blade, US Wagyu Chuck Tender, US Wagyu Bottom Round, Angus Chuck Eye, Premium Eye Round, NZ Lamb Shoulder, Premium Pork Belly, Natural Pork Collar, and Natural Chicken Breast.

In addition to freshly sliced premium meats, the menu boasts a variety of fresh seafood, such as crab, crawfish, clams, mussels, and shrimp, along with an array of fresh vegetables and other add-ons like napa cabbage, ramen noodles, fried fish cake, tofu, and bok choy. The hot and cold bar also features dishes like Teriyaki Chicken, Karaage Chicken, Japanese Curry, and Fried Rice. To complement the meal, Shabu-Works offers a wide selection of soft drinks, freshly brewed teas, and a curated list of alcoholic beverages, including beer, sake, and soju, plus a Bingsu Snow Bar for dessert.
In an era of rising costs, Shabu-Works remains committed to its mission of providing accessible and affordable dining experiences while maintaining the highest quality standards. The weekday lunch menu is priced at $27.95 per person, $8.99 for children ages three to seven, and $14.99 for children ages eight to 12. Weekend lunch and dinner are priced at $37.95 per person, $8.99 for children ages three to seven, and $19.99 for children ages eight to 12. And at Shabu-Works, patrons eat for free on their birthday.

Shabu-Works will open this September at 575 Grand Avenue, Suite 100, in San Diego's North County neighborhood of San Marcos. For more information, visit shabuworks.com.
