Food Network Star Guy Fieri Is In Town, But It's Not To Film At Area Restaurants

August 22, 2024

Food Network star Guy Fieri, known for his Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives television show, is in San Diego, but it's not to film at area restaurants.

San Diego is no stranger to the infectious energy of Guy Fieri, the American restaurateur, author, and Emmy Award-winning television host known for his hit Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Over the years, Fieri has featured at least 20 area restaurants on the show, including beloved spots like Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill, Crazee Burger, Crest Cafe, Hob Nob Hill, OB Noodle House, Pizzeria Luigi, Studio Diner, and Hodad's.

This week, Fieri is back in town, but not for filming. Instead, the culinary icon is here for a more personal reason—moving his son, Ryder, into his dorm at San Diego State University as he begins his first semester this fall. Ryder Fieri committed to SDSU last fall, despite getting into "every school" he applied to, according to Guy.

Despite the family-focused trip, Fieri hasn't completely stayed away from San Diego’s vibrant food scene. He’s already been spotted dining at Azuki Sushi, a popular Japanese restaurant in Bankers Hill, and was seen exploring La Mesa Village earlier today where he and his family ate at Surfrider Pizza. He has also been sighted around The Lafayette Hotel, where he stayed when he brought Ryder to orientation last month. Fans of his show and local foodies alike are keeping an eye out for where he might pop up next.
While this visit may not be about scouting the next great diner, drive-in, or dive, Fieri's presence is a reminder of his deep connection to the San Diego food community—and now, to the city's academic life as well.
