Japanese Omakase Restaurant Yakitori Tsuta Ready To Open In San Diego's Kearny Mesa

August 22, 2024

San Diego's culinary scene is about to welcome Yakitori Tsuta, an omakase-focused Japanese restaurant opening on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa.

Yakitori Tsuta marks the first solo venture for Chef Tatsuro Tsuchiya, a seasoned veteran whose expertise was most recently showcased at Yakitori Hino and the once-Michelin-starred Sushi Tadokoro. Tsuchiya, who has also honed his craft at nearby Yakitori Yakyudori, is bringing his passion for traditional yakitori to his new restaurant.

Tsuta is located in the Sunrise Towne Centre shopping plaza, which is also home to Nijiya Market and Koon Thai. Named after the Japanese word for "ivy," Yakitori Tsuta will offer an intimate dining experience with an eight-seat chef’s counter and a single four-top table.

The menu at Yakitori Tsuta will revolve around an omakase-style experience, focusing on charcoal-grilled chicken skewers. Tsuchiya’s $108 omakase menu will feature 18 to 20 courses, primarily showcasing different parts of the chicken. Expect dishes like chicken tenders with ginger and shiso, crispy chicken skin, and tsukune (grilled chicken meatballs). The meal will culminate with a choice of ramen in chicken broth or soboro don, a rice dish topped with minced chicken and egg, followed by a selection of light desserts.

Yakitori Tsuta is set to open on Wednesday, August 28, at 3860 Convoy Street, Suite 100, in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. For more information and to make reservation, visit exploretock.com/yakitori-tsuta
