La Conde Cantina Ending Run In San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter To Be Replaced By New Karaoke Bar

August 15, 2024

Known for its over-the-top presentation, including a gold foil-wrapped wagyu burger, La Conde Cantina is ending its short run in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter and will soon be replaced by a new karaoke bar and restaurant concept.

In March 2022, La Conde Latin American fusion restaurant opened in the space that long housed Donovan's Steak & Chophouse in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. The San Diego location was the second outpost of La Conde (originally called La Condesa), following the first location in Santa Monica, launched in early 2021 by Chef Misael Guerrero. Guerrero is also the owner of the Emme Group, which includes popular restaurants like Culichi Town and Mamá Por Dios.

In San Diego, Culichi Town had locations in Vista and another in the the 7,800 square-foot space that last housed Fuddruckers in downtown Chula Vista, but both branches have since closed. In addition to the former Donovans Steak & Chophouse space, which was the first San Diego restaurant to shutter in March 2020 due to growing COVID-19 precautions, Emme Group also took over the nearly 8,000 square-foot space long occupied by BiCE Ristorante in the Gaslamp for the opening of a branch of its Mamá Por Dios restaurant, a project that's been in the works for nearly three years.

The Emme Group will soon convert both its Santa Monica and San Diego locations of La Conde to become El Rincon De Los Dolidos Despecho Bar. Dubbed as "the place to overcome heartbreak and passion," the new concept will be a karaoke bar and Latin American restaurant.

El Rincon De Los Dolidos Despecho Bar is expected to open later this year at 570 K Street in downtown San Diego. For more information, follow the El Rincon on Instagram
