Smoke was seen billowing from the rooftop of Trust Restaurant in Hillcrest as both the San Diego Fire Department and police swiftly responded to a fire on Friday evening.
At approximately 9:07pm, emergency services were alerted to a fire at Trust Restaurant, located on the ground floor of the Mr. Robinson Lofts apartment building at at 3752 Park Boulevard. Both firefighters and officers from the San Diego Police Department arrived promptly at the scene to assess the situation and contain the fire.
Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have originated in the kitchen hood system, an essential ventilation component in restaurants. The fire then reportedly spread to the building’s trash chute, affecting both the parking garage and basement areas. Fortunately, the quick response of firefighters allowed them to contain the fire, extinguishing the flames in the hood system and the basement dumpster by approximately 9:45pm.
The full extent of the damage is still under investigation, but it appears the fire was confined to the kitchen ventilation system and basement. There were no immediate reports of injuries. Trust Restaurant is one of Hillcrest’s popular dining destinations, so the incident has garnered the attention of many local patrons and residents. According to a patron on the scene when the incident occurred, everyone is safe and the restaurant staff quickly acted to keep patrons and employees safe.
"We will be closed for the next few days due to a fire that broke out in the kitchen last night," announced Trust Restaurant on its social media. "First and most importantly, everyone is okay. Our staff acted quickly to evacuate the dining room and alert the fire department. We're assessing the damage and will re-open after the necessary repairs have been made. Thank you to everyone who sent well wishes, we are forever grateful for this community."
