Hammond's Gourmet Ice Cream Ending Decade-Long Run In San Diego's North Park

September 3, 2024

After 10 years in business, Hammond's Gourmet Ice Cream is permanently closing in San Diego's North Park.

In spring 2014, Trang Hammond opened the first location of Hammond's Gourmet Ice Cream on University Avenue in San Diego's North Park community. The dessert shop quickly became popular for its menu of Hawaii-imported ice cream made using local fruits, nuts, dairy and Kona coffees and eventually expanded with locations in Pacific Beach and Point Loma. In 2019, SDSU alum A.J. Williams purchased the company.

The last remaining location of Hammond's Ice Cream, whch is also the original, will close after end of service on Sunday, September 8. As of late last year, the company was no longer able to continue importing their famous Hawaiian ice cream due to recurring supply chain issues and rising inflation. They then replaced the longstanding Hawaiian ice cream with a product from Wisconsin.

"It is with an enormous amount of gratitude and humility that we want to say Thank you to the city of San Diego and the North Park neighborhood for supporting us through our wonderful 10 year journey," read a post on Hammond's social media accounts. "However, as of September 8th 2024, our journey will be coming to an end and Hammond’s Gourmet will be permanently closed."

Hammond's Gourmet Ice Cream is located at 3077 University Avenue in San Diego's North Park. For more information, visit hammondsgourmet.com.
