Ponce's Mexican Restaurant Shuttering North County San Diego Location

September 6, 2024

San Diego's historic Ponce's Mexican Restaurant has announced the impending closure of its North County location after six years in business.

Ponce Meza Sr. opened his namesake restaurant in San Diego's Kensington neighborhood in the fall of 1969, and the restaurant has been a local favorite for its Mexican comfort food ever since. When Ponce Sr. retired in 2000, his son, Ponce Jr., and his daughter, Rocio, took over the business. In 2018, the company opened a second outpost within Del Sur Town Center in 4S Ranch.

"Since we first opened Ponce’s Del Sur in 2018, we’ve experienced an incredible journey!", read the announcement on Ponce's social media channels. "The world has transformed in numerous ways, leading us all to reevaluate our lives and future aspirations. With this in mind, we have made the difficult decision to transition away from the great space that has been the home of Ponce’s Del Sur for the past six years. We are grateful for the amazing memories we’ve created and the overwhelming support from our community. It is simply our time to move on."

Ponce's Del Sur will continue to operate through the month and possibly into October. The menu includes traditional Mexican food staples complimented by a large list of agave spirits, cocktails, beer, and wine.

Ponce's Mexican Restaurant Del Sur is located at 16480 Paseo Del Sur, Ste 105, in San Diego's North County community of 4S Ranch. For more information, visit poncesrestaurant.com.
