San Diego Fire Fighters have responded to a call at the original location of Buona Forchetta restaurant in South Park.
On Friday morning, firefighters were seen responding to an incident at the original Buona Forchetta restaurant in San Diego's South Park neighborhood. The beloved Italian eatery, located at 3001 Beech Street, drew attention as fire trucks and emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
According to Buona Forchetta owner Matteo Cattaneo, a new pasta cooker malfunctioned, causing a small electrical fire in the kitchen. Only one employee was on site and he immediately called the fire department. There were no injuries and minimal damage associated with the accident.
That stretch of 30th Street in San Diego's South Park is no stranger to fire incidents. In November 2020, a fire destroyed the once-beloved Hamilton's Tavern and South Park Brewing Company, located just a block away from Buona Forchetta.
Buona Forchetta has been a cornerstone of the South Park community since its opening in 2011, when owner Matteo Cattaneo introduced his award-winning Italian cuisine to San Diego. Since its inception, Buona Forchetta has grown beyond its South Park origins, opening several additional locations across San Diego. These include multiple Buona Forchetta offshoots, Gelati & Peccati in North Park, G&P Diner in Encinitas, Marisi event space and cafe in South Park, Forchettabouddit in Encinitas, and Carbón in South Park.
Although Buona Forchetta will be closed for lunch, ownership plans to reopen the restaurant for dinner service "after we get some fresh air and some electric smell out." For more information, visit buonaforchettasd.com.
