San Diego's Lodge At Torrey Pines To Close Signature Restaurant For Nearly Half-Year Overhaul

September 13, 2024

San Diego's iconic The Lodge at Torrey Pines will soon close its signature restaurant A.R. Valentien for a multi month makeover.

The signature restaurant at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, A.R. Valentien, will temporarily close starting on October 13, with plans to undergo a major renovation and expansion during the winter months. The renovation aims to enhance the dining experience with updates including a new pastry kitchen, a modernized butchery section, upgraded flooring, walls, and lighting, along with improvements to the HVAC system.
"The updated and enhanced kitchen will ensure an exceptional dining experience for our guests," explained Executive Chef Kelli Crosson. "

Named after Southern California artist Albert Robert Valentien, whose work is featured throughout the restaurant, A.R. Valentien first opened in 2002 as the signature restaurant of The Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, San Diego. The restaurant was designed to showcase Southern California's rich culinary traditions, focusing on farm-to-table dining and locally sourced ingredients. Known for its farm-to-table philosophy, the restaurant has become a San Diego institution and offers stunning views of the Torrey Pines Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean.
While A.R. Valentien is closed, The Grill at Torrey Pines will continue operations, ensuring that guests still have a dining option on the property. Additionally, a limited menu will be available in the lounge adjacent to A.R. Valentien, and diners can also enjoy meals on the restaurant’s outdoor terrace. The Lodge will set up a temporary industrial banquet kitchen to maintain the quality and service for group events and gatherings.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a luxury resort owned and operated by Evans Hotels. Founded in 1953 by William D. & Anne Evans, Evans Hotels also owns and operates The Bahia Resort Hotel in Mission Beach and the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa in Pacific Beach, as well as two sternwheeler boats that ferry to and from between the company's Mission Bay hotels. The San Diego-based corporation is currently led by second generation owner Bill L. Evans, who made news during the early days of jury selection for now-convicted felon Elizabeth Holmes' highly-publicized fraud trial. Holmes, who is now serving over a decade sentence in federal prison in Texas, is married to Bill L. Evans' son, Billy, and the pair share two young children.

A.R. Valentien is expected to reopen by March 2025 at 11480 North Torrey Pines Road in San Diego's La Jolla. For more information, visit lodgetorreypines.com/ar-valentien.
