The Dog Dive Bar Closes After 33 Years In San Diego's Pacific Beach

September 4, 2024

After 33 years as a beloved fixture in San Diego’s Pacific Beach, The Dog Dive Bar has permanently closed its doors.

Brett Miller, now the CEO of the hospitality group Eat.Drink.Sleep, began his career in San Diego’s hospitality scene with the opening of The Dog on Everts Street in 1991. What started as a local dive bar grew into the launchpad for a much larger career, as Miller expanded his portfolio to include some of the city’s most popular bar, hotel, and restaurant concepts.

Under the Eat.Drink.Sleep banner, Miller’s portfolio includes the boutique Tower 23 Hotel in Pacific Beach and its onsite restaurant, JRDN. The company also owned Moondoggies, once a Pacific Beach favorite for many years.

In collaboration with then-corporate chef Brad Wise - now the leader of San Diego's iconic Trust Restaurant Group - Eat.Drink.Sleep launched Cannonball, a sushi and rooftop lounge, and Draft, a beachside beer bar and restaurant, both located at Belmont Park in Mission Beach. The company also once managed operations at Lakehouse Hotel in San Marcos, where they opened Decoy Dockside Dining, adding another waterfront experience to their portfolio.

The closure of The Dog marks the end of an era in Pacific Beach, but the legacy of Miller and his impact on San Diego’s hospitality industry continues to thrive through his many ventures. For more information about Eat.Drink.Sleep, visit eatdrinkandsleep.net
