After 24 Years In Business, Hive Sushi Lounge Closes In San Diego's East Village

After more than two decades as a mainstay in San Diego's East Village, Hive Sushi Lounge has closed its doors.

Originally opened in 2000 by founder Milos Jahudka, Hive Sushi evolved from an early drum-and-bass venue to a top spot for Japanese fare in the area. In late 2021, Jahudka sold the establishment to the owners of nearby Social Tap Eatery next to Petco Park.

In a statement shared on social media, the restaurant expressed gratitude to patrons: "We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support and loyalty over the years. It has been a pleasure serving you, and we will cherish the memories we've created together."

For many, Hive Sushi Lounge was synonymous with San Diego's East Village, earning a reputation over the past 15 years for some of the freshest sushi in the city. The restaurant was located at 1065 14th Street in San Diego's East Village.

Hive Sushi has been the home for pop-up Omakase By Ambrely for the past year. This high-end experience by Chef Ambrely Ouimette, who was previously the head chef of wildly popular Sushi|Bar ATX in Austin, is currently looking for a new home.
