The owner of San Diego's 28-year-old El Agave Mexican Restaurant & Tequileria is opening a new, music-driven dining concept in North Park named Nômade Tapas & Records.
Juan Carlos Gomez opened El Agave Tequileria at the entrance to San Diego's historic Old Town in 1996. The restaurant offers a menu of upscale, regional Mexican food complimented by an extensive collection of over 2,000 tequilas and mezcals. In 2014, a second location of El Agave opened atop Del Mar Plaza but shuttered two years later. Gomez also once operated Iberico Spanish Bistro in La Jolla, although that restaurant closed in 2014 after a little over a year in business.
Earlier this year, El Agave ownership took over the space currently occupied by Tachido Sushi (previously Sabuku Sushi) on the border of North Park and University Heights. Named after the Portuguese and French word for "nomad", Nômade Tapas & Records will offer a menu of globally-inspired small plates. The business will be playing records throughout the day and serving small low ABV cocktails, beer and wine.
Nômade Tapas & Records is expected to open in December 2024 at 3027 Adams Avenue in San Diego's North Park. For more information, follow Nômade on Instagram.
