Manna Heaven Korean BBQ To Replace Gyu-Kaku In San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter

San Diego-based Korean barbecue restaurant Manna Korean BBQ is taking over the Gaslamp Quarter space currently occupied by Japanese super chain Gyu-Kaku.

Founded by Sean and Jun Yeo, Manna Korean BBQ launched its flagship location on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa in February 2010. The family-owned eatery has since expanded to Mira Mesa, San Marcos, Chula Vista, and Westfield Plaza Bonita mall in National City. The Gaslamp Quarter will soon be home to its latest venture, as Manna prepares to occupy the space occupied by a Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ location, which has been operating there since October 2020.

The new Manna BBQ spot will feature its signature high-quality beef, chicken, pork, and seafood for tabletop grilling, along with Japanese-style shabu-shabu hot pots. A range of small plates and a full bar with beer, wine, sake, cocktails, and spirits will also be available to complement the dining experience. Looking ahead, Manna plans to continue its expansion with potential new locations in La Jolla, North County, and the SDSU College Area.

As for the departure of Gyu-Kaku from the Gaslamp, no official reason has been announced. The Japanese BBQ chain, which was founded in 1996, operates more than 700 locations globally, with nearly 50 in the United States. Its only other San Diego branch in Scripps Ranch will remain open. There is no word when Gyu-Kaku's Gaslamp Quarter outpost will officially close for business.

Manna Heaven BBQ is set to debut in early 2025 at 801 Fifth Avenue, Gaslamp Quarter. For more information, visit mannaheavenbbq.com.
