Founded in Otay Mesa in 2012 by owner Paulina Chaidez, Cocina 35 brought family recipes of made-from-scratch Mexican breakfast specialties, served cafeteria-style, to San Diego’s South County. In 2015, the second location opened in downtown's Cortez Hill neighborhood, establishing Cocina 35 as a go-to spot for authentic Mexican breakfasts. Last year, the brand expanded further with a take-out only location in Barrio Logan and Cocina 35 Brunch at Liberty Station, taking over the 4,700 square-foot space that previously housed Soda & Swine.
Now, the fifth Cocina 35 is set to open next year in a 4,500 square-foot indoor-outdoor space at the Coronado Ferry Landing, previously home to Costa Azul from February 2020 until its closure in September 2023. Like its other locations, this Cocina 35 outpost will focus on “Comida Corrida” build-your-own brunch plates, featuring a variety of chilaquiles options and toppings, along with egg scrambles, tortas, pancakes, tacos, burritos, and more. The Coronado location may also extend its hours beyond breakfast, offering a full bar with cocktails, beer, and wine.
