San Diego's Michelin-Recognized LOLA 55 Modern Taqueria Ready To Unveil Minimalistic Offshoot L55 Tacos & More Inside Westfield UTC Mall

The popular San Diego-based taqueria LOLA 55 is expanding its presence with a fresh, minimalist offshoot called L55 Tacos & More, opening soon at Westfield UTC Mall.

Known for its unique spin on Mexican street food, LOLA 55 has earned accolades including the prestigious Bib Gourmand rating from the Michelin Guide, recognizing it as one of California’s best Mexican eateries. Now, with L55 Tacos & More, the brand is setting the stage for a modern, scalable version of its signature concept that will support broader expansion.

Owned by Tijuana native Frank Vizcarra, LOLA 55 first opened in San Diego’s East Village in 2018 and soon became a beloved spot for elevated yet affordable tacos and cocktails. Vizcarra, a former executive at companies like McDonald's and Tender Greens, named the restaurant after his mother, Lola, and developed the concept with the vision of combining quality Mexican flavors with a sophisticated yet approachable setting. Following the success of the flagship and a second location in Carlsbad, Vizcarra now aims to launch more L55 locations around San Diego County and beyond, making authentic "Cal-Mex" cuisine accessible to an even wider audience.

Located near the Apple store in the 2,800 square-foot space last occupied by Tocaya Organica, L55 Tacos & More offers an inviting space with a unique blend of seafoam green and millennial pink decor. The interior design, inspired by Mexican papel picado (cut paper folk art), sets a vibrant backdrop to the open-kitchen format that has become a hallmark of the LOLA 55 experience. Glass doors open onto a patio, inviting diners to enjoy their meals in a bright, welcoming atmosphere of the al-fresco mall.

The L55 menu, crafted by chef consultant Daniel Soto (formerly of Mexico City's renowned Pujol), showcases a carefully curated selection of dishes centered around five core proteins: birria, carnitas, carne asada, black chicken tinga, and Lion's Mane mushroom barbacoa. Each protein can be ordered as tacos, burritos, or bowls, catering to a range of dietary preferences. Vegan diners can enjoy options like the 3 Sisters Bowl, featuring beets, corn, and squash with vegan cotija cheese and chipotle dressing. Complementing the menu, L55 Tacos & More offers rotating aguas frescas, desserts, and low-alcohol cocktails.

L55 Tacos & More will open on November 4 at 4301 La Jolla Village Drive, Suite 2003, inside San Diego's Westfield UTC mall. For more information, visit lola55.com
