Tucked behind a North Park laundromat, the longstanding Atypical Waffle (previously Wow Wow Waffle) is undergoing a transformation after 12 years of serving its signature waffles. Under new owner Jill Solomon, this unique eatery will soon reopen as Good Measure, embracing a refreshed concept that expands beyond its waffle-centric menu to offer a broader, all-encompassing brunch experience.
Solomon, who was previously general manager of Alexander's on 30th and formerly involved in the immersive pop-up dinner series Cow by Bear, plans for Good Measure to become a hub of creativity and community. She envisions a space where up-and-coming chefs can showcase their talents through collaborations, guest chef events, and pop-ups.
Solomon and her business partner Jess O’Shae acquired Atypical Waffle from its original owners, Joseph & Amy Kraft, earlier this year, with plans for Solomon to take full ownership as the new concept launches at year's end. Good Measure will initially open during breakfast and lunch with future plans to extend into evening hours. Solomon hopes to make Good Measure a welcoming spot not only for brunch but for weekend events that bring together the local culinary community.
Plans for the space include additional signage to make the hidden gem more accessible, while maintaining its signature entry through the back of the laundromat. Guests can expect a vibrant, mid-century modern aesthetic filled with greenery that reflects the lively spirit of North Park.
Good Measure is slated to open in December or January, operating Thursday through Sunday from 8am to 2pm, at 3519 30th Street in San Diego's North Park.
