San Diego urban winery J. Brix Wines has opened the company's first tasting room in the space that last housed Newtopia Cyder in North County.
J. Brix Wines, one of San Diego's respected boutique wineries, has opened its first tasting room in San Marcos, bringing its renowned, low-intervention wines to the North City area. Founded 15 years ago by winemakers Emily Towe and Jody Brix Towe, J. Brix began in a garage and has since expanded to an Escondido production facility. Now, it joins popular North City establishments like Buona Forchetta, Draft Republic, Maya's Cookies, and Wynston's Ice Cream.
The new tasting room occupies an 890-square-foot space that previously housed Newtopia Cyder, and it offers a welcoming atmosphere Tuesday through Sunday. Guests are welcome to bring food from neighboring North City vendors, while J. Brix also stocks wine-friendly snacks, including tinned fish, crackers, nuts, dips, and chips. Regular art and wine workshops will also be hosted, with each ticket providing a glass of wine and all class supplies.
The tasting room highlights a rotating selection of J. Brix’s wines, available by the glass, in flights, and by the bottle. Known for its Cobolorum Riesling Pét-Nat and other distinctive varieties, J. Brix sources grapes from vineyards across California, including Santa Barbara and San Diego County, emphasizing minimal-intervention winemaking.
J. Brix Wines is located at 250 N. City Drive, Suite 10, in San Marcos. For more information, visit jbrix.com.
