The Compass Bar & Restaurant Closing Its Doors In Carlsbad Village After 13 Years In Business

After 13 years in San Diego's North County, The Compass gastropub has announced its impending closure in Carlsbad Village.

Owned by Jess Van Driessche and Andy Davis, The Compass Bar & Restaurant has been a staple in the Village Faire outdoor shopping center in Carlsbad since 2011. When it originally opened, the menu was crafted by San Diego chef Craig Jimenez, who now owns Sbicca in Del Mar. Known for its American gastropub experience, the establishment offered a diverse menu featuring locally sourced ingredients, craft cocktails, and a selection of 20 craft beers on tap.

"We are officially closing our doors 12/19/24," announced The Compass ownership through a heartfelt video on the company's Instagram page. "We greatly appreciate everything over the last 13 years we have been in business in our beloved Village of Carlsbad and to our community. Please help us go out with a BANG and come in for your last opportunity see staff and enjoy your favorite drinks and meals!!"

In early 2021, The Compass made headlines for joining several other Carlsbad restaurants in defying public health orders to close during a resurgence of the pandemic. San Diego Supervisor Jim Desmond praised the restaurant and event sent a photo of himself dining within the pub with the owners.

There is no word on who will be taking over the space atop Village Faire, located at 300 Carlsbad Village Drive, Suite #202, in San Diego's North County city of Carlsbad. For more information, visit thecompasscarlsbad.com.
