Big City Bagels, AKA BCB Cafe, Grand Opens In San Diego's North Park

Big City Bagels, also known as BCB Cafe, has officially opened its doors in San Diego's North Park, taking over the space formerly occupied by Solomon Bagels.

Founded in 1994 by lifelong friends Kristee Gilbert and Jennifer Reynolds, BCB Cafe has been a staple in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood for nearly three decades. Over the years, the café has expanded its offerings beyond bagels to include sandwiches, smoothies, and an espresso bar. The company also operates coffee carts at San Diego State University and a kiosk at the San Diego Airport Rental Car Center, along with a wholesale division supplying bagels and baked goods to local businesses.

The new North Park outpost aims to fill the void left by Solomon Bagels, which closed its doors in July 2024. Known for its traditional East Coast-style bagels and pastries, Solomon Bagels had become a neighborhood favorite since opening in 2020. BCB Cafe plans to honor the legacy of high-quality bagels in the space while introducing its own unique menu items and premium ingredients, such as Boar’s Head meats and locally roasted Café Moto coffee.

In addition to a large variety of bagel flavors, including Asiago and Jalapeno Cheddar, BCB sells muffins, croissants, cinnamon rolls, cookies, breakfast sandwiches, hot lunch sandwiches, open-faced bagel melts, acai & yogurt bowls, avocado toasts, soups, salads, coffee drinks, teas, and smoothies. The eatery also offers deli sandwich platters, cheese trays, meat and cheese spreads, and a variety of other options for larger gatherings.

BCB Cafe is now open at at 4152 30th Street in San Diego's North Park. For more information, visit bcbcafesd.com.
