On December 4, Ron Lee, a seasoned skydiver with 42 years of experience, made a dramatic entrance at the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado Island. As Santa Claus for the day, Lee ascended in a Cessna 206 to 4,000 feet, preparing for a skydiving performance that would captivate the audience below.
Once in the air, Lee leapt from the plane, his red suit contrasting against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. A burst of crimson smoke trailed from one of his boots, adding a festive touch as he descended rapidly. Spectators on the Paseo Lawn watched in awe as he fell through the sky, the scene evoking a sense of holiday wonder.
At 2,500 feet, Lee deployed his parachute, and the descent slowed as he gracefully glided toward the ground. Another red smoke plume signaled the unfolding of an American flag, fluttering in the breeze. With expert precision, Lee performed multiple spirals, showcasing his skill from over 7,200 jumps and delighting the audience with his aerial acrobatics.
Upon landing, Lee greeted spectators with high-fives and holiday wishes, further enhancing the festive atmosphere. This skydiving performance was just one of over 500 executed by Lee's company, Skydiving Innovations, which has been performing at the Hotel del Coronado for more than 25 years. Over that time, the hotel has become a favored venue for Lee and his team, who have done more than 40 performances at the landmark.

Skydiving Innovations, founded in 1986, specializes in family-friendly skydiving exhibitions, often involving current and former members of Naval Special Warfare. These performances require meticulous planning and coordination, including collaboration with Naval Air Station North Island and securing the necessary FAA certifications to ensure safety in San Diego's busy airspace.
For Lee, combining technical expertise with engaging entertainment is at the core of his company’s mission, and his performances continue to bring joy to San Diego’s residents and visitors alike.
