Little Fox is opening a new, 789 square-foot shop in a former hair studio a mere stone's throw from the ocean and San Elijo State Beach Amphitheater in Cardiff. Owner Meghan Golden aims to bring the same artisanal quality to Cardiff that has made her first shop a local favorite.
Golden's journey with Little Fox began in the hospitality sector, where she accumulated over 15 years of experience, including bartending at renowned places like Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad. Her venture into ice cream was sparked by a national cocktail competition in 2019 where she transformed leftover cold brew cream into her initial batch of ice cream. This led to the opening of her first permanent location at the Freeman Collective in South Oceanside in late 2023.
The philosophy at Little Fox is to create ice cream from scratch, using cream, milk, and eggs as the base for a range of unique flavors. One popular offering is the 'ch-apple rhone', an apple cider cream with a swirl of chai caramel, made with smit cider from a local farmers market. Customers in Cardiff can look forward to these innovative flavors alongside classics, with offerings like ice cream tacos, which are gourmet versions reminiscent of the discontinued Choco Taco. In addition to scoops, flights, and pints-to-go, the new Cardiff location will also offer ice cream cakes for special occasions, continuing Little Fox's tradition of bringing joy through its creamy, inventive treats.
Little Fox's expansion follows its success from the early days of the pandemic when Golden sold her ice cream through her brother-in-law's brewpub, Viewpoint Brewing Co. in Del Mar, and later with a mobile tricycle attending numerous events and weddings. The Oceanside shop, designed by Symbiotex Design Lab, features a production space capable of supporting further expansions, hinting at potential future growth within the San Diego area.
