Founded in 1996 in Newport Beach, Bluewater Grill has built a reputation for serving pristine, sustainably sourced seafood with a mix of traditional and modern preparations. Co-founders Rick Staunton and Jim Ulcickas have emphasized their commitment to "boat-to-plate" freshness, exemplified by their custom fishing boat, Pilikia. The company currently has two Bluewater Grill branches in San Diego - in Coronado and Carlsbad. The duo aims to bring the same dedication to quality and sustainability to Mia's, while exploring a new fusion of flavors.
Mia's will occupy the 3,663 square-foot space at 243 N Highway 101, Suite 7, in Solana Beach, formerly home to ALCE 101 Kitchen & Tequileria. ALCE 101, which opened in 2019, briefly closed in 2023 and was listed for sale before reopening earlier this year. The space will retain elements of the former ALCE 101’s Napa Valley-inspired design, including its expansive outdoor patio, while introducing fresh accents to align with the new concept.
Mia's will take over the former ALCE 101 space within The Boardwalk shopping center in Solana Beach. The menu will spotlight Baja-Mediterranean cuisine, crafted with local and organic ingredients. Guests can expect dishes ranging from raw seafood specialties, like crudo and ceviche, to succulent cooked meats, all designed for sharing.
The bar program will celebrate Mexican spirits, offering a curated selection of tequila and mezcal-based cocktails. The restaurant will also feature a robust wine list and a rotating selection of local and international beers, catering to diverse tastes.
