Founder Pamela Olvera confirmed that the Point Loma, North Park and Oceanside locations of Northside Shack will close after business on January 20. Olvera explained that financial challenges, including post-COVID loan repayments and losses incurred during the lengthy and costly process of attempting to open the Oceanside store, contributed to the decision. She cited construction defects and disputes with contractors CLTVT and the landlord at the Freeman Collective in Oceanside as a significant burden, leading to over $350,000 in unexpected costs.
"I was holding on as best as I could, but it’s just too much now," Olvera shared, adding that she pays about $13,000 per month in loans. "Without the income from the two new locations, we just can't continue."
Northside Shack, which first opened in Point Loma in 2014, grew into a community favorite with locations in North Park and Oceanside. Known for its unlimited toppings and vibrant, health-conscious offerings, the brand cultivated a loyal following over the years.
The business is now listed for sale, described as a non-franchise opportunity with "endless growth potential." According to the listing, the sale includes all four locations, including a brand new site in Point Loma, along with a loyal customer base and a strong social media presence. Serious inquiries are being directed through the listing broker, Bryan Gonzales. Olvera hopes to find a buyer by the end of the month who can carry on Northside Shack's legacy.
This closure marks a bittersweet farewell for fans of the "World's Best Dang Acai Bowls," as Northside Shack prepares to wrap up its operations in San Diego. Visit one of the locations to help support the company. For more information, visit northsideshack.com.
