Originally constructed in 1991, the venue has been a dedicated club space, previously known as Montage, a renowned gay club. Since its rebranding to Spin in 2007, it has been a sanctuary for electronic music lovers, hosting major DJs and fostering a diverse range of music nights, from Drum n' Bass to hip-hop.
Brandon Colt and Brandon Garva assumed ownership of Spin Nightclub in August 2024. Colt, who has managed Spin for over a decade and has extensive experience in San Diego's nightlife, alongside Garva, a DJ and the co-founder of United By Bass, are poised to enhance the club's legacy. Their deep connection to the local scene includes running SD Union, one of the city's longest-running Drum n' Bass events, which has found a home at Spin.
The new owners are committed to improving Spin's infrastructure, including lighting, sound, and overall facilities, aiming to elevate the club's production to new heights. They plan to restore the after-hours license lost in 2023, with the first 4am event successfully held in November, signaling a return to Spin's all-night dance culture.
To celebrate this new chapter, Spin is hosting "Spin: Remixed," a four-night event starting January 16, 2025. Thursday, January 16 will be the launch of "Spin Thursdays," focusing on techno with up-and-coming DJs. On Friday, January 17, expect a special night with SD Union, featuring prominent Drum n' Bass acts. Then on Saturday, January 18, there will be a homage to local promoters and musicians with back-to-back DJ sets, extending to 4am. Finally, on Sunday, January 19, there will be the introduction of "Spindustry," a monthly event for industry workers, showcasing local talent.
