The vandalism was discovered Sunday morning on the walls of the flagship store of Municipal, located in the 1700 block of South Coast Highway in Oceanside. The suspect responsible for the graffiti has not been identified, and it remains unclear if police were notified of the incident. Store staff have since covered up the messages.
One of the messages spray-painted on the building read, "'We really need another acai franchise' - said no one," while another took aim at Wahlberg directly, stating, "Mark Wahlberg is a small turd. Go home kooks!"
This is not the first act of vandalism at the location. Employees reported that just last month, an individual poured a flammable liquid on both the interior and exterior of the building.
Municipal, a performance apparel brand co-founded by Wahlberg in 2019, opened its Oceanside flagship store in late 2024. The location, which spans more than 16,000 square feet in the historic former North County Times building, is Municipal’s largest physical retail space. It houses a 6,000-square-foot store, a café, a barber shop, and offices. The brand’s only other retail location before the Oceanside opening was a much smaller shop in West Hollywood.
The Oceanside flagship has brought increased foot traffic to the area and recently welcomed a new neighbor, The Taco Stand, a popular fast-casual Mexican eatery. However, not all locals have embraced the addition of Municipal to the community, as evidenced by the recent vandalism. Despite these incidents, the store remains operational, and there is no indication that the company plans to scale back its Oceanside presence.
Municipal is located at 1722 South Coast Highway in San Diego's North County city of Oceanside. For more information, visit municipal.com.
