Iconic NYC-Based Bagel Brand H&H Bagels Opening Several San Diego Locations

H&H Bagels, a renowned name synonymous with New York City's iconic bagel culture, has announced plans to introduce its delectable offerings to San Diego with numerous locations planned for the area.

H&H Bagels has confirmed the opening of five new stores in San Diego, marking a significant milestone in its growth trajectory. This development follows the successful launch of their first franchise in Boca Raton, Florida, in September 2024. The company is also opening branches in Orange County, Miami, and Raleigh-Durham. 

Founded in 1972 in the heart of Manhattan by Helmer Toro and his brother-in-law Hector Hernandez, H&H Bagels quickly became a staple for New Yorkers craving authentic, kettle-boiled, and hearth-baked bagels. The brand operates five retail locations in New York City, with plans for 25 more stores across the United States, and also offers nationwide shipping and boasts a global wholesale businesses. Over the years, H&H eateries have expanded their menu to include a variety of cream cheeses, sandwiches, and other breakfast items, all while maintaining its traditional baking methods.
The San Diego and Orange County expansion is spearheaded by AKL Bagels, LLC, a franchise group with a background in the restaurant industry. Leading this charge is Kurt Kuyper, with over 30 years of franchise operations experience, including significant roles at Krispy Kreme, Taco Bell, El Pollo Loco, and Rita’s Italian Ice. Kuyper's expertise is complemented by Jimmy Albano, whose 20-year career in franchise management includes operational oversight of multiple Krispy Kreme locations. The team is rounded out by Jay Lowder, a fitness industry expert, and Stuart Lowder, known for his contributions to film and animation production.

AKL Bagels is currently looking for spaces all around San Diego County to open H&H Bagels locations. The company hopes to have branches in central, north and south San Diego.
