San Diego County’s First Licensed Cannabis Consumption Festival Taking Place This March

San Diego County is about to see its first-ever licensed cannabis consumption festival, as The Farmer's Cup Awards Sesh prepares to take place on March 15.

The Farmer's Cup Awards will take place at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Brengle Terrace Park in San Diego's North County city of Vista. This event, organized by The Farmer’s Cup in partnership with Vista’s The Cake House dispensary, marks a historic moment for the local cannabis industry.

The festival, which will run from 11am to 10pm, is open exclusively to attendees 21 and over. Guests can expect a lively atmosphere featuring live music, food vendors, and cannabis sales from over 50 brands. The highlight of the event is The Farmer's Cup awards ceremony, recognizing top-tier growers in both commercial and home-growing categories.

The path to this event was not an easy one. The Farmer's Cup co-founder Joshua Caruso has been pushing for legal cannabis events in San Diego County since 2014. After obtaining a state-issued cannabis event license in 2018, Caruso and his team faced years of rejection from local municipalities - until Vista finally agreed to allow two cannabis events per year on public property.
Vista has been a leader in cannabis reform within San Diego's North County, having first legalized medical dispensaries in 2018 and later approving adult-use cannabis sales in 2021. Now, with the city's approval for public cannabis events, Vista is once again at the forefront of the region's evolving cannabis landscape.

For attendees, the Farmer’s Cup Awards Sesh is more than just a festival - it's a celebration of safe, legal cannabis consumption in a welcoming environment. While the event is a milestone for the industry, organizers must adhere to strict regulations.

Cannabis consumption will be restricted to designated areas and must not be visible from public spaces. Alcohol and tobacco sales are prohibited, and security measures include ID scanners to verify ages. Additionally, Vista requires event organizers to share 10% of gross revenue (excluding cannabis product sales) with the city.

The Farmer’s Cup Awards Sesh arrives as National City prepares to open San Diego County's first cannabis consumption lounge, Sessions By The Bay, which has had its opening delayed until March. Vista city leaders have also expressed interest in putting a measure on the ballot to allow cannabis lounges locally, signaling a broader shift in the region’s approach to legal cannabis.
