Vehicle Incident At Powerhouse Park In Del Mar Leaves Two Injured

A serene Sunday afternoon at Powerhouse Park in Del Mar turned alarming when a vehicle veered off Coast Boulevard, jumped a curb, and crashed into the park, injuring two people.

The incident occurred around 2:15pm on February 23, 2025, as families and visitors enjoyed the sunny weather at this popular coastal destination along the 1650 block of Coast Boulevard, a well-known gathering spot near the historic Powerhouse Community Center. Witnesses described a sudden disruption as the vehicle, reportedly driven by an elderly man, struck a sign, plowed through bushes, and entered the park, causing chaos among the crowd.

According to the San Diego Sheriff's Department, the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, leading to the unintended crash. Two individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were evaluated at the scene by San Diego Lifeguards and firefighters, though they did not require hospitalization, officials confirmed.

San Diego Sheriffs deputies and emergency responders arrived promptly, managing the scene and ensuring public safety. The driver remained at the location and is cooperating with authorities as they investigate the circumstances of the incident. No additional details about the driver or the vehicle have been released at this time, but officials are working to determine the full scope of the event and prevent future occurrences.

Powerhouse Park, a beloved community space known for its scenic ocean views and family-friendly atmosphere, typically sees large crowds on weekends, making the incident particularly jarring for locals. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact the San Diego Sheriff's Department to assist with the ongoing investigation.
