The decision, attributed to unresolved parking disputes with the landlord, marks the end of an era for the Spring Street branch, which opened in 2012. Meanwhile, the original Carnitas Uruapan location at 7149 El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego, in operation since 1986, will remain open, continuing its nearly four-decade legacy of serving authentic carnitas.
The closure stems from what the restaurant describes as a "parking situation" tied to a new business opening nearby, which is believed to be Mama Mia Market & Sicilian Deli. According to a statement posted on the restaurant's door, there has been no ability to come to terms with the building's landlord.
"Despite our best efforts, unresolved issues with our landlord have made it impossible to continue our operations at 4233 Spring Street."
Sources indicate that the new Italian deli, which recently opened adjacent to Carnitas Uruapan, is seeking to expand into the space, exacerbating parking conflicts that have long been a point of contention in the area. The restaurant emphasized its commitment to a smooth transition, inviting customers to reach out with any questions during this period. Carnitas Uruapan has been a staple in La Mesa since its Spring Street debut, fostering a loyal customer base over the years.
"We have operated at this location for 13 wonderful years, we have met and served many amazing customers, and created a special bond with many," the statement read, expressing gratitude for the community's support.
