Square Pizza Co. Bringing Award-Winning Pies To San Diego's East Village

Square Pizza Co., the Pacific Beach pizzeria recently crowned the best Detroit pizza in California by the Washington Post, is set to open a new San Diego outpost in the East Village.

Square Pizza Co. gained national recognition last year when it outshone Los Angeles favorite Apollonia’s Pizzeria in the Washington Post's rankings, cementing its status as a Detroit-style pizza powerhouse. Square Pizza Co. offers three unique styles - Boston Beach, Sicilian, and Detroit - each named after American car models, reflecting Santos’s creative flair. A

Among the standout offerings is the Dodge, a Detroit-style pizza topped with fresh baby spinach, mushrooms, ricotta, garlic, red sauce, Parmesan cheese, and oregano, which has won over locals. The menu also features tempting sides like cannolis and Brazilian cheese bread, adding a sweet and savory twist to the experience.

The second San Diego location of Square Pizza will open in the former Make Pizza & Salads space on Park Boulevard in the East Village. This expansion marks a bold step for the eatery, which has built a stellar reputation since its founding in late 2016 by Fred Santos, and promises to bring its acclaimed rectangular pies to a new neighborhood near Petco Park.

Santos, who along with his business partner Bruno Lippi launched Square Pizza Co. at 4508 Cass Street in Pacific Beach, has focused on quality and innovation, earning a loyal following with his meticulously crafted pies. The East Village location will build on this foundation, offering a menu that blends traditional techniques with modern flavors.

Square Pizza Co. is expected to open as early as this summer at 699 Park Boulevard in San Diego's East Village. For more information, visit squarepizzaco.com.
