San Diego’s Mama’s Day Fundraiser & Tasting Event Returns June 6 To Raise Funds For Medically Tailored Meals

One of San Diego's most beloved culinary fundraisers is back to usher in summer. The 34th annual Mama’s Day will return to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront on Friday, June 6, offering guests the chance to sample some of the region’s finest food and drink - all while supporting a life-saving mission.

Hosted by Mama's Kitchen, the event brings together dozens of local restaurants, chefs, breweries, and bakeries for an evening of unlimited bites, live music, opportunity drawings, photo booths, and more. The full lineup of participating culinary partners is expected to be announced in May.

Mama’s Day raises critical funds for Mama's Kitchen's core program: delivering medically tailored meals to San Diegans living with serious illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and chronic kidney disease. The nonprofit currently delivers more than 900,000 meals a year to over 3,000 individuals across the county.

Organizers say the need has never been greater. With potential cuts to federal nutrition funding looming, Mama’s Kitchen CEO Eva Matthews emphasized that community support is vital to sustaining the organization’s services.

Last year’s event brought in more than $141,000, enough to fund 54,000 additional meals. This year, Mama’s Kitchen is aiming even higher - with a goal of $170,000 to support 68,000 meals.

Tickets for Mama’s Day are available online. General admission is $190, with VIP access at $290. VIP ticket holders will enjoy a private cocktail reception beginning at 5:30pm, with general admission opening at 6:30pm. The event will run through 9:30pm and will be held at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront at 1 Park Boulevard.

Mama’s Kitchen began in 1990 as a grassroots effort to deliver meals to neighbors living with HIV/AIDS. Since then, it has grown into the largest nonprofit provider of medically tailored meals in San Diego County. In 2024, the organization celebrated its 12 millionth meal delivered and became just the second group nationwide to receive accreditation from the Food is Medicine Coalition.
