StarBread Bakery Ready To Unveil Second San Diego With Signature Filipino Treats

StarBread Bakery, a cherished Filipino bakery known for its Señorita bread, will open its second San Diego location this week.

The StarBread branch, taking over a former salon space in the Poway Town Center shopping plaza, follows the success of its Chula Vista location, which debuted in 2022, and marks the latest expansion for the family-run business that began in Northern California nearly four decades ago. The bakery's opening week kicks off with a soft opening on April 16 and 17, from 10am to 4pm each day, followed by regular hours of 6am to 6pm starting on April 18, and a grand opening on April 19 with the same hours. StarBread expressed gratitude for joining the Poway community, anticipating a warm welcome from locals eager to experience its signature offerings.

Founded in Vallejo, California, in 1986, StarBread has grown from a single family-owned bakery to a regional chain with locations across Northern and Southern California, Nevada, and beyond, including Sacramento, Las Vegas, and its first San Diego spot in Chula Vista's Otay Ranch Town Center. The bakery’s flagship item, Señorita bread - often called "Spanish Bread" - is a soft, buttery roll dusted with sugar, typically filled with a sweet butter and breadcrumb mixture, reflecting traditional Filipino panaderia recipes. 
The Poway location will also feature a variety of other baked goods, including a rotating selection of cakes, donuts, and pastries, alongside Filipino staples like lumpia spring rolls, empanadas, siopao steamed buns, and bitso-bitso, a sweet treat similar to Portuguese malasadas, filled with options such as cream cheese, chocolate, or fruit jam. Additionally, the new branch introduces mochi donuts to the menu, offering a chewy, gluten-free twist on the classic donut, available in flavors like mango, matcha, and ube.
